On 1–2 December 2025, the Nordic-Baltic Sustainability Conference 2025 “Transforming Nordic Sustainable Food Systems through Policy Change and Cooperation” brought together experts, youth representatives, civil society organisations, educators and partner institutions from across the Nordic-Baltic region in Tallinn, Estonia.
The conference gathered 143 participants, including 24 international participants from Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Latvia, becoming one of the key final events of the international project “Towards Sustainable Food Systems – the Nordic-Baltic Civil Society Approach”. During the two-day programme, participants explored sustainable food systems, responsible consumption, climate adaptation, school nutrition, food waste reduction, plant-based food transition and the role of communities and civil society in promoting greener and more inclusive societies.
Keynote speakers included: • Vassili Golikov (Sillamäe Society for Child Welfare, Estonia) • Professor Michael Søgaard Jørgensen (Aalborg University, Denmark) Experts and practitioners shared Nordic-Baltic experiences, innovative solutions and best practices related to sustainable food policies, environmental awareness, youth engagement and community-based sustainability initiatives. The conference also included panel discussions, workshops, trainings and networking sessions, where participants developed future cooperation ideas and contributed to the Digital Guidebook on Sustainable Food Transition.
The event strengthened Nordic-Baltic cooperation and highlighted the importance of youth participation, environmental responsibility and community-driven sustainable development.
